Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 19, 2024
This privacy policy explains how the ChopChopGo Chrome extension (the “Extension”) collects, stores, and shares information when you use it to import recipes into your ChopChopGo account. This policy covers the browser extension only. For details on the ChopChopGo apps and web service, please refer to the in-app privacy documentation.
Information We Collect
The Extension captures only the data required to import a recipe:
- Recipe content. When you click “Import,” the Extension serializes data from the current tab and sends it to ChopChopGo for processing.
- Sign-in details. If you sign in through Google or email/password, the Extension stores your authentication token and refresh token locally so it can authenticate requests to the ChopChopGo backend.
- Temporary image cache. The Extension keeps a short-lived cache of recipe images so the upload can finish even if you switch tabs immediately after clicking import. The cache is automatically cleared when the import completes or your browser restarts.
How We Use the Information
- Recipe data are sent securely to our backend endpoint to build the recipe inside your account.
- Authentication tokens are used only to authorize requests you initiate (starting an import, refreshing job status, uploading a requested image). Tokens remain on your device unless you explicitly sign out or clear your browser data.
- We never sell, share, or repurpose the captured page content outside of its intended recipe-import flow.
Data Retention
- Cached recipe data is retained only as long as needed to complete the import, then purged from the Extension’s storage.
- Authentication state persists locally so you do not have to sign in for every import. You can remove it at any time by clicking “Sign out” in the extension popup or clearing Chrome’s extension data.
- Once an import finishes, only the resulting recipe stored in your ChopChopGo account remains on our servers, subject to your in-app data controls.
Permissions We Request
The Extension requests Chrome permissions strictly tied to recipe importing:
- activeTab & scripting to capture the current page only when you click import or use the context menu.
- storage to keep your login session and the short-lived image cache.
- identity to power Google sign-in.
- notifications & contextMenus to show completion notifications and provide a right-click “Import to ChopChopGo” option.
Your Choices
- Use the “Sign out” button in the Extension popup to remove stored tokens.
- Remove the Extension from Chrome at any time via chrome://extensions.
- Clear Chrome’s browsing data (Extensions storage) to delete any cached images or settings.
